In July 2007, Chibuluma South Mine Limited ceased to exist and in 2008, the company reverted to its original name: Chibuluma Mines Plc. The Chibuluma Mine site is located in a semi-rural area of Lufwanyama District, approximately 10 km south of Kalulushi. As of the 2010 census, the Kalulushi District was home to approximately 100,381 residents.

Chibuluma Mine began production in 1955 as a self-contained unit producing copper concentrates, which were treated at the mine concentrator. However, the concentrator was closed in 1991. Chibuluma Coppers Mines Plc is currently owned 85% by Jinchuan Group Company Limited and 15% by ZCCM-Investments Holdings.
Chibuluma South is the only operating division of Chibuluma Mines which also includes Chibuluma West (closed in 2005 and covered by a separate analysis). Chibuluma South lies approximately 12km to the south of Chibuluma West and around 20km to the south west of Kitwe.
